Whether you love the occasion, hate it or don’t acknowledge it as a thing, Valentine’s Day is a massive day for loads of businesses, and hence the marketing of said day is everywhere at this time of year!
Here at CreYAYtive Designs, the aim is to add a little yay to your day! Now if you are into Valentine’s Day, we have a couple of products that you might like, (shameless plug.. llama love keyrings, and whale pun card) but if it isn’t your thing, or you’re a single pringle, it can get all up in your face when you don’t really want it to.
So we thought we’d like to help add a little yay to your day, whether you are celebrating this one or not, by sharing some self care tips for this Valentine’s day. Particularly if you are spending this one on your own, but actually for anyone that wants to get involved and take a bit of time for themselves.
You don’t have to feel like you are missing out if you’ve noone to spend it with, just take back the power and reframe the way you think about it.
1. Celebrate 'Galentines' or 'Palentines' Day instead - get your girls or guys together and have a fun night in, and celebrate how great your mates are.
2. Treat yourself! Why wait for someone else to buy you something pretty? You deserve it. Take control, rather than the thought 'Oh I wish I had someone to buy me flowers / chocolates / whatever' buy them for yourself! And take the time to appreciate your purchase as a gift to yourself.
3. Have your favourite dinner. Whether it's take out, or a home cooked meal, what is that meal that you absolutely LOVE? Maybe it's one that you save for special occasions because its a bit expensive, or a faff to make, treat yourself! And even better, have the pudding too!
4. Take some time to think about how awesome you are! Think of something you've achieved since Valentine's day last year. Or a favourite memory. Whether its journaling, or meditation that's your thing, find a quiet space to clear your mind and focus on the positives.
5. Do a workout you enjoy. Gym, cycling, walking, running, dance class, even if it is just blasting your favourite tunes and dancing around the kitchen.. move your body, we all know those endorphins make us feel good.
6. Take some time to appreciate the beauty in the world around you. Whether it's outside in nature, a pot plant you have on your windowsill, a picture on your wall. Nothing jumping out at you? Well there's always the internet, Googling pictures of cute puppies, kittens or baby animals always put a smile on my face.
7. If all else fails, stick on a film that makes you cry and just embrace those sad feels. If nothing else feels right, maybe you just need to spend some time feeling the crap stuff. It's ok to feel sad, yeah it sucks, but its better to spend some time feeling it, and letting it out, than holding onto it and bottling it all up.
So there you have it, our top tips for self care on Valentine’s Day. If you have any of your own you’d like to share, pop them in the comments below.
